An excerpt from Wind in the Willows

Nice? It's the ONLY thing, said the Water Rat solemnly, as he leant forward for his stroke. Believe me, my young friend, there is NOTHING - absolute nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Simply messing, he went on dreamily: messing - about - in - boats; messing----'

New Year

Spent a delightful few days with my friend Sue in Tenby over Christmas - including taking part in their Boxing day swim. Then home with Sue and off to Leo No 2 to go up the River Wey and Godalming Navigations to spend the New Year with friends from Byfleet Boat Boat Club at Send.  Very cold with some unforecast rain but now cosy and warm and a few glasses of wine behind us!

On the Friday helped two friends pump their boats out (loo) as there are currently no pumpout facilities on the Wey with Guildford Boathouse being closed over Christmas and the Pyrford marina one being out of commission due to changes at the marina. Then went to Guildford (by bus - never one to look a gift horse in the mouth when it comes to something the Government has handed out).  Home by 16:00 and delighted to receive an E-mail saying that we had been selected to take part in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the Thames on 3-June-2012 but equally sad to hear of friends who had not been selected - at this stage not sure what the selection criteria was.

Saturday morning and off down the Wey to Byfleet Boat Club to be ready for the New Year's party and helped another person pumpout - my little hand pump really useful.

An excellent evening at Byfleet Boat Club where we saw in the new year.  Then in the late morning returned Leo No 2 to her moorings at Addlestone just before the heavens opened - good timing for once.
