An excerpt from Wind in the Willows

Nice? It's the ONLY thing, said the Water Rat solemnly, as he leant forward for his stroke. Believe me, my young friend, there is NOTHING - absolute nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Simply messing, he went on dreamily: messing - about - in - boats; messing----'

Basingstoke Trip

Anyone want to try out the lower reaches of the Basingstoke?

Byfleet Boat Club are organising a trip (we have now had conformation we can go) over Easter as follows:

  • Good Friday - Woodham Junction to Bridge Barn (pub) in Woking (walking distance of the centre of Woking) - 6 locks
  • Saturday - Bridge Barn to Brookwood Country Park - 5 locks
  • Sunday - return to Bridge Barn
  • Easter Monday - return to Woodham Junction
If you can come and are based elsewhere than the River Wey or the Basingstoke you can obtain a transit licence from Thames Lock which will take you through Thames, Town, Coxes and New Haw locks to Woodham Junction and return or you can purchase a River Wey licence (max 21 days) and enjoy the Wey as well.

No charge for the Basingstoke Licence but we will be asking for a donation of £10 for the weekend.

If interested please contact Kathryn (dot) Dodington (at) gmail (dot) com
