An excerpt from Wind in the Willows

Nice? It's the ONLY thing, said the Water Rat solemnly, as he leant forward for his stroke. Believe me, my young friend, there is NOTHING - absolute nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Simply messing, he went on dreamily: messing - about - in - boats; messing----'

The river opened just in time

The River opened at midday - thanks to the National Trust for their excellent website we were able to set off late afternoon and get to the New Inn at Send by 19:00.

An E-Mail this morning from the IT department (well Ian our man who knows how it all works) of Byfleet Boat Club to say everything is 'on' for this weekend is great news.

The forecast is not stunning but we go to these things for the fun of going and enjoying ourselves and we are moored right outside a pub - the New Inn at Send.  Looks like a good weekend is in prospect.

Not so much fun on the Thames at the moment according to Ian and Helen.
