An excerpt from Wind in the Willows

Nice? It's the ONLY thing, said the Water Rat solemnly, as he leant forward for his stroke. Believe me, my young friend, there is NOTHING - absolute nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Simply messing, he went on dreamily: messing - about - in - boats; messing----'

Basingstoke adventure about to start

12 boats gathered at Byfleet Boat Club ready for
the Basingstoke in the morning.
We are gathering at Byfleet Boat Club this evening prior to the first group of boats heading off up the Basingstoke tomorrow.  There's a few things left to attend to in Deepcut but we remain positive that everything will be serviceable on Saturday.  Judging by the work the Basingstoke Canal Authority have undertaken recently one cannot fault their dedication to producing a canal for us to use.

There's five boats at Brentford waiting for the nod - again we are positive that they will be on their way tomorrow in time to join us when the second group set off on Friday morning.

  1. Ooh you optimist! the Thames is still looking a bit red!

I hope that you have a wonderful time - we'll follow the blog avidly, and will hope that we can catch up with the convoy sometime over the bank holiday :-)
